EMDR Therapy in Sherwood Park & the Edmonton Area
Process distressing memories so they stop running in the background.
What EMDR is
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is an evidence-based therapy designed to help people process traumatic or distressing experiences that the brain hasn't fully integrated. When a memory is inadequately processed, it can remain emotionally charged — triggering strong reactions long after the event has passed.
EMDR uses bilateral stimulation (typically guided eye movements) alongside structured processing to help the brain refile those memories in a way that reduces their emotional intensity.
What EMDR is used for
- Trauma and PTSD
- Distressing memories from childhood or adulthood
- Accidents, injuries, or medical events
- First responder and occupational trauma
- Anxiety rooted in past experiences
- Phobias and performance-related fears
What to expect
EMDR follows a structured eight-phase protocol. Your psychologist will take time to understand your history and prepare you before any processing begins. The work is paced carefully — your window of tolerance is always considered. Many people are surprised at how efficiently EMDR can shift the emotional weight attached to a memory.
