Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) for Couples in Sherwood Park & the Edmonton Area
Get underneath the conflict and rebuild the connection.
What Emotionally Focused Therapy is
Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) is one of the most researched couples therapy approaches available. Developed by Dr. Sue Johnson, it's based on attachment science: the idea that the cycles couples get stuck in — pursue/withdraw, attack/defend, shutdown/escalate — are driven by underlying attachment needs that aren't being met.
EFT gets underneath the argument to what's actually happening — and helps couples build a more secure, responsive bond.
What EFT is used for
- Recurring conflict and communication breakdown
- Emotional distance and disconnection
- Rebuilding trust after betrayal or infidelity
- Couples navigating major transitions (children, career, loss)
- One or both partners feeling unseen or dismissed
- Relationships where the same fight keeps happening
What to expect
EFT is structured and typically delivered over a defined number of sessions. Your psychologist will work with both partners to identify the negative cycle you've been in, understand what's driving it beneath the surface, and help you build new patterns of reaching and responding. The goal is a more secure, emotionally available relationship — not just better conflict management.
Ready to break the cycle?
EFT helps couples break out of the cycles keeping them stuck. If connection feels harder than it should, we can help you find your way back to each other.
