What clinical hypnosis is

Clinical hypnosis (also called hypnotherapy) is a therapeutic technique that uses a state of focused attention and heightened suggestibility to help people make meaningful changes. It's used by trained clinicians as an adjunct to other therapeutic approaches — not a standalone treatment, and nothing like what you've seen on stage.

In a clinical context, hypnosis involves guiding someone into a relaxed, concentrated state and offering targeted suggestions aligned with their goals.

What it's used for

  • Anxiety reduction and relaxation
  • Performance anxiety and pressure
  • Pain management and procedural anxiety
  • Habit change (including sleep, stress responses)
  • Phobias and conditioned fear responses
  • Building confidence and self-efficacy

What to expect

Clinical hypnosis is always voluntary and collaborative. You remain aware and in control throughout. Your psychologist will explain exactly what to expect, and the approach is integrated with other work happening in your sessions. It's typically used when focused attention and suggestion can accelerate progress toward a clear goal.

Curious whether clinical hypnosis could help?

Clinical hypnosis is a structured, evidence-informed tool — not a performance. If you're curious whether it might support your goals, we're happy to talk through how it works.
