Get to know Hunter
Whether I was coaching kickboxing fighters, preparing alongside a rowing team for months, or apprenticing as a mechanic, my life has been defined by two things: high-stakes performance and technical precision. I thrived in environments where just being “good enough” doesn’t cut it. Success is measured by thoughtfully making decisions and having grit. I know the culture of locker rooms, shops, and sales floors because I’ve lived it.
My journey into my position now began by working on the Edmonton Distress Line and being a Supportive Listener at the University of Alberta. I saw what happens when drive, courage, and dreams aren’t supported by a solid mental health foundation. I realized that the same intensity that fuels our success can be a double-edged sword, also leading us to burn out, suffer from identify loss, or fall into a survival mindset that feels impossible to switch off. I joined Vault Psychology because mental health isn’t just about repairing what’s “damaged” or “broken”, it’s also about sharpening the mental edge that allows you to perform without losing yourself in the process and honouring your deep-seated humanity.
A big question on your mind is probably: how I can support you? Since mental health is inseparable from our identities and the systems we live in, I work with individuals, groups, and teams who appreciate an integrative, collaborative, real-world tested perspective. I provide a therapeutic space that prioritizes partnership over authority, draws on my education, research background, and counselling experiences, and uses a tailored mix of evidence-based approaches and nuanced lenses to help with your problems. For me, drawing on my sports background allows me to empathize with the unique pressures, routines, and confidence required by high-performers in their duties. Moreover, as a man, a young adult, and a queer person, I prioritize creating an inclusive environment that works with your intersectional identities. Additionally, my background outside of mental health allows me to see the bigger picture, especially when helping teams and organizations build resilient, sustainable cultures.
Importantly, I’m also a person outside of work. I participate in sports and hobbies that I enjoy at a level that works for where I’m at, on top of actively seeking out new interests. Some new things I’m exploring are camping, hunting, participating more in me and my fiancé’s cultural activities, and going out of my way to listen to new music.
I don't believe in cliché therapy; I believe in cooperative, ethical mental health care that promotes measurable change and authentic empowerment. Reach out to me and let’s find out whether we’re a fit for each other!
